A digital leader. A responsible global citizen. A multi-faceted family of companies. An ethical business. Samsung is all of these and more. At Samsung Group and Samsung Electronics, we uphold a belief in shared responsibility – to our people, our planet and our society. Across the company, we hold ourselves to the highest standards so that we can more effectively contribute to a better world.
Samsung supports a wide range of artistic and cultural activities worldwide. Over the years, the company has made major contributions to various museums, galleries and exhibitions in Korea and countless other countries, including the United States and France. The Samsung Museum of Modern Art collects, conserves and exhibits modern art from Korea and other countries, while the Samsung Children’s Museum in Korea (the first of its kind in the country) offers children an entertaining and inviting way to explore the world in which they live. In addition, Samsung organizes and supports a variety of cultural activities designed to encourage the early development of children’s artistic interests. In the Netherlands, Samsung is also helping schools to integrate ICT and new media into their teaching. The Samsung Education Innovation Fund has been established for this purpose (www.onderwijsinnovatiefonds.nl). Samsung’s sponsorship of the Wonderkamers at the Gemeentemuseum Den Haag is an ideal complement to these activities.
The Gemeentemuseum has created the Wonderkamers in partnership with Wecycle. Wecycle organizes the collection and recycling of discarded electrical appliances and energy-saving lighting (e-waste). Its key concern is the recuperation of valuable materials. Wecycle supports the development and implementation of primary and secondary school teaching programmes on this subject. Schoolchildren learn that e-waste contains a wealth of materials that can be used to manufacture new products.
Wecycle aims to collect as many discarded electrical appliances and as much e-waste as possible and to guarantee their optimum recycling. This prevents hazardous materials from ending up in the natural environment and reduces the need to extract primary raw materials from nature.
The organization collaborates with municipalities, charity shops, retailers, installation companies, children’s farms and consumers. It handles the responsible collection of e-waste on behalf of manufacturers and importers, guarantees high-grade recycling in environmental terms and reports on these matters to government.
